ORIGINS:
Similar to the apple tree, it has a very ancient history. It’s native to central and eastern Europe, and to areas in southwestern Asia.

THE FRUIT:
There are different varieties of pears that can be differentiated from each other by their shape (elongated or round), size and color (from the rusty-yellow of the Abate Fétel to the bronze color of the Conference, to the yellowish light green with freckles of the Williams). All of these are false fruit; in fact the real fruit is the portion that contains the seeds which is usually discarded.

FLAVOR:
Depending on the variety and the degree of ripeness, the characteristics that can be seen are different: the flavor can vary from a balance between sweet and acidic to a taste predominantly sweet/aromatic; the texture of the pulp can melt, be juicy or crunchy; the color of the pulp can be white or ivory. On average, the fruit contains 35 calories per 100 grams of weight.

HEALTH BENEFITS:
Pears are a great health ally, able to give an energy boost in moments of physical or mental tiredness.
They are a good source of fiber, mineral salts, vitamin C and phenolic compounds with antioxidant action.
Very digestible, pears also have an effective diuretic, refreshing and laxative action.
